NHS Services
NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
How does it work?
- Three simple steps:
- You order your repeat prescription
- Your doctor sends us your electronic prescription
- We deliver your prescription medication direct to your door
What is EPS?
This service allows you to order your NHS repeat prescription with using the following options below:
- NHS App
- NHS website’s repeat prescription service
- Patient Access (selected GP surgeries only)
- SystmOnline (selected GP surgeries only)
Most deliveries can be posted through your letterbox (depending on size of medication). So you may not need to be in for your delivery. We can deliver to any address in England (for example, work, family or neighbour). Please be aware that if you have pets or young children then posting through the letterbox may not be possible. Please let us know on the registration form or you can call us on 08456 462966.
Our pharmacists are always just a phone call, voicemail or email away if you ever need some help with your medication. Whether it’s just basic advice on managing your prescriptions or answering questions about side effects or other worries you may have, we’re always here to help.
Electronic Prescriptions
Almost 95% of prescriptions are now digitally prescribed (signed, sent, delivered electronically).
You can choose us to dispense your prescriptions by nominating us to be your chosen pharmacy. It’s simple, register and we take care of the rest. When you receive a prescription, it will be sent to us electronically. You will then receive your medicines or appliances in the post or by our Hot Chemist Dispatch van without having to hand in a paper prescription.
On some occasions the GP may decide to hand you a paper copy of the prescription called a “token”. This token will contain a unique barcode that will be used to download your original prescription by our software from the secure NHS database. If you have been issued a paper token please contact us with the token number (barcode number) and we will be able to download this prescription for you. Therefore there is no need to hand in your paper token at the pharmacy if you prefer we just deliver it.
Choosing Hot Chemist
If you receive regular prescriptions or are already using a prescription collections service then choosing Hot Chemist to dispense all your prescriptions may save you time by avoiding unnecessary journeys to your GP.
You can still order your repeat prescriptions in the same way as you do now, but your prescriptions will be sent to us electronically.
This means you will not have to collect a paper repeat prescription from your GP surgery.
Cancelling or changing from your old pharmacy to Hot Chemist
You can change or cancel having prescriptions dispensed at your old pharmacy at any time. Simply speak to your GP practice or call us on 08456 462966 or register now. You can do this before you order your next prescription.

Please allow time for the update to take place to avoid your next prescription being sent to the wrong place.
Your surgery may ask you for our pharmacy name and code.
This is Hot Chemist, FTW55.
Your GP surgery may not be able to find us via a postcode search since we are an online pharmacy and although we have an address, our pharmacy is technically not a physical site, we are online and this means the NHS database can only locate us online using the code above.
What can I do if i'm unsure
Call us for more information and we will help you through the nomination process and also help you with organising your next repeat prescription request.
Dispensing your prescriptions
We dispense NHS prescriptions (paper and electronic) and will give advice on how to get the most benefit from your medicines. We keep a comprehensive stock of medicines and use a fast and an efficient wholesaler service to enable us to dispense all prescriptions promptly.
We can also dispense NHS repeat dispensing prescriptions. Ask us for more information about this service.
All medicines are dispensed in child resistant containers unless you ask us not to.
Please remember: keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children. Our staff can advise you on safe storage of medicines.
Unwanted medicines
Please return all unwanted medicines to the pharmacy via post where we will dispose of them safely. Visit our disposal of unwanted medicines page for more information.
Health advice and self-care
Our pharmacist and trained assistants are available to provide advice on all medicines and minor ailments, in private if required. We can also give you advice on how to live a healthy life, for example, advice on how to stop smoking or healthy diets. We can direct you to other sources of advice and assistance if we cannot help you ourselves.
Patient records
We keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us as well as records of other services we provide to you. This helps us check for possible problems, such as reactions between medicines and will help us deal with any queries you may have. We comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code on confidentiality. If you want to discuss the records we keep, please speak to a member of staff.
